Why Cycle Tracking Matters | Fertility Naturopath
What is cycle tracking?
It’s keeping track of your menstrual cycle for the purposes of either better understanding your health, trying to conceive, or preventing conception.
It is truly at the heart of understanding your hormonal health - and working toward conception (if that is your goal).
It will teach you about the different phases of your cycle so you can better understand if you are ovulating or not, and whether or not you are able to potentially maintain a pregnancy.
What are we missing?
Unfortunately, cycle tracking isn’t something that menstruating people are often taught to do. In fact, once periods begin it is often the mission of many people to turn them off as quickly as possible or to “regulate” them with a hormonal contraceptive.
Through most of the teens and 20s many patients turn their cycles off in this fashion.
By the time people are thinking about trying to conceive or are starting to get curious about their hormonal health they are often having to cobble together information about what a menstrual cycle is, what it’s supposed to look like and feel like, how to track it and how to use it to try to conceive. Enter Dr. Google deep dives and getting easily lost in a sea of too much information and not enough understanding.
In fact, we were taught this information long ago. Remember those awkward conversations in health class in grade school? Yeah. I know. No one was really paying attention. We were just trying to not feel incredible uncomfortable and embarrassed.
What do we do now?
So now here you are wondering what your cycle is all about and how it can help you conceive (or not) or even just teach you about your overall health.
